NLC President, Ajaero rates Buhari low on infrastructure, power, and others
Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has criticized the departing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its poor performance in terms of infrastructure, electricity supply, and labor relations with disgruntled unions.
Ajaero asserted that the absence of ideology among Nigerian political parties causes them to perform poorly when elected to public office.
The NLC President claims that because the next administration is from the same party, he does not have high expectations for them.
As part of his union familiarization trip, he made a stop at the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) headquarters on Monday.
He said, “We want a government that the Nigerian people will love and that would put an end to this degree of underdevelopment. We claim that Nigeria is underdeveloped, after all. All around, we are rescinding. In the electricity industry, for instance, they were averaging between 4,000 and 5,000 megawatts at the time Buhari assumed power. And it has fallen to roughly 3,000 during the last eight years. From where we were, it is going back.
“Under his watch, we began documenting eight months of the ASUU strike, which had previously lasted three to four months. We withdraw this.
“If you look at the infrastructure, nothing has changed. We now spend roughly N80,000 for an airline ticket, compared to N50,000 previously. We are thus still awaiting the next administration’s own program. Because if we adopt the APC’s platform, they would uphold Buhari’s policies, and if they are continuing underdevelopment, there is an issue. The NLC will thus hold off on commenting until it has seen the incoming government’s program.
“Parties no longer carry out their manifestos, as is evident. Thus, the reason for our concern. We are not permitted to discuss any government’s agenda. Only waiting for them to announce their own agenda is an option.
