Yusuf emerges new Speaker, Kogi House of Assembly

Aliu Umar Yusuf, a member of Lokoja II, has been elected as the next Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.

Soon after Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello issued a proclamation inaugurating the eighth Assembly, Yusuf was elected Speaker.

The Dekina Okura Constituency Representative, Enema Paul, was also chosen by the House to serve as the next Deputy Speaker.

Suleiman Abdulrasaq, the majority leader, Seidu Amodu, the deputy majority leader, Baba Haruna, the chief whip, Bello Okuwaseyi, the deputy chief whip, Idowu Ibikunle, the minority leader, Sunday Daku, the deputy minority leader, and Bode Ogunmola, the minority whip, are the other major officials chosen.

The new Speaker, Hon. Aliu Umar Yusuf, praised God in his inauguration remarks for the opportunity to serve Kogi State.

He also expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for selecting him to represent the parliamentary house’s interests.

The Speaker said that, under his direction, the state Assembly will work with other branches of the government to advance Kogi State.

The house then decided to postpone its meeting until August 1, 2023.
