The Federal Government has identified 78 priority initiatives that, among other things, will reduce food waste and change the food system from farm to table.

This information was revealed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Nebeolisa Anako, in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by the Director of Information, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo.

He said that the Thursday meeting in Anambra will be the National Steering Committee on Implementation of the Food Systems Pathway.

Anako said that he will arrive in Rome on July 24 and attend a side event on July 26 in order to prepare for stock-taking moments.

He said that he would preside over the meeting and that the nine state coordinators from the six geopolitical zones—North East – (Borno), North West – (Kano), North Central – (Kwara), South West – (Lagos and Osun), South-South – (Akwa Ibom and Edo), and South East – (Enugu and Anambra)—would be present.

Anako stated that on June 25 and 26, the steering committee members and coordinating directors of the zones will retreat to Uzanu Farm in Edo.

The final template to be utilized for the compilation of national reports to be submitted by Nigeria to the United Nations (UN) Food System Coordination Hub will be discussed during the retreat, according to him.

On the advice of the national convener, Dr. Sanjo Faniran, Prince Clem Agba, a former minister of state for the budget and national planning, established the national steering committee, according to Anako.
