I must see a new Nigeria before I die, 2023 polls rigged – Cardinal Onaiyekan
John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the retired archbishop of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, expressed optimism on Thursday that he would live to see the expected new Nigeria.
Onaiyekan stated the 2023 presidential election was rigged when commenting on it on Channels Television’s show on Thursday. She emphasized that individuals responsible for influencing the outcome of the election are aware of their own knowledge.
The 80-year-old cleric claimed God knows those who manipulated the election and expressed grief over the election tribunal’s failure to rule on the complaints submitted by opposition parties before the May 29 handover.
“I am 80, so I am not going anywhere,” he said. I still want to see a better Nigeria before entering paradise, and I think it is achievable.
“The election’s riggers are aware of their actions. They are aware of those who obstructed the people’s will. The amazing thing is that God is aware of them.
Even the court might not be aware of them, but God is. They are aware of themselves.
The more often we mention God, the more careful we should be not to misuse his name.
There are nations that are successfully managing their affairs while not wanting to mention God.
However, if we choose to continue mentioning God, we must conduct our affairs in accordance with His will.
The court set May 8 for the hearing of the petitions contesting Bola Tinubu’s election as president-elect.
Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, and Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party, had petitioned the tribunal to overturn Tinubu’s win, claiming that the All Progressives Congress, or APC, had stolen their mandates.
