The explosion in Ibadan on Tuesday was caused by a Malian, who is involved in illicit mining activities in several areas of Oyo State, according to information obtained by XK STAFF.

The Malian was the one occupying the building where the event took place, several of the neighbors of the street where it happened to XK STAFF on Wednesday.

According to XK STAFF, there was an explosion on Tuesday at Bodija Housing Estate’s Dejo Oyelese Close in Ibadan.

Millions of naira worth of property was damaged, several injuries were reported, and two verified deaths were reported.

According to an elderly person who spoke with XK STAFF on Tuesday night, the Malian has been residing in the house for a number of years.

“Mali is where he is from. However, I’m not sure if he was storing such explosives within the home. We are aware that he is Mali. It is widely known that he engages in illicit mining.

He had already gone with his family before the tragedy. When he noticed that the structure was on fire, he grabbed his wife and kids and fled. Some who even knew about the flames fled right away.

“He operates in the Oke Ogun region. The only people impacted were the unaware. Here in Ibadan, the guy and his family will remain. In Ibadan, they have their people,” he remarked.

Having lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years, a different resident observed that many individuals shied away from conversation out of concern about potential assaults.

The sixty-year-old man said to XK STAFF, “People won’t want to talk.” How are they going to respond? It’s not far from the truth what the first individual told you.

“Go and look over every location I specified. There are very few Nigerian-occupied houses if you enter from Obasa.

The majority of those residing there are Malians. Most of the houses there are owned by Malians. Check it out now. We are to blame for our complacency,” he said.

One other homeowner said that the Malian had moved out of his previous residence as a result of a resident petition.

The individual engages in illicit mining activity. He has spent more than a year residing in the home. Although I wasn’t home when it happened, I went there to look at the building after work.

“Three homes came crashing down.

“We observed a few documents. In his last apartment, several tenants had petitioned against him.

He was compelled to come here from elsewhere. He has all of the paperwork in this place. The explosion destroyed all of the paperwork. That’s how we obtained them,” he said.
