Two suspects were detained by the Niger State Police Command for attempting to transport sixteen bags of allegedly Indian hemp to the hamlet of Ndayako in the state’s Mokwa Local Government Area.

The suspects were detained on September 6, 2023, by police officers assigned to Mokwa Division, according to the state police public relations officer (PRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who made this admission in a statement in Minna on Sunday.

Auta Umar Saidu, 25, and Mohammed Bala, 52, both of Mokwa, were among the accused.

He claims that during an effort to transport 16 bags of suspected Indian hemp to Ndayako village, the aforementioned Auta was stopped and detained in Muwo village.

“Auta confessed during questioning that Bala had sent him to pick up the bags from a man named Lawali, who had brought the goods from Ondo State.”

He stated that once Bala was apprehended, they both admitted that the bags were for sale and that they had been working on this project as a team for approximately eight months.

The accused have been brought before the court for prosecution after being sent to SCID Minna.
