Minister of Interior Urges Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to Focus on Duty

Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has emphasized the significance of dedicated work within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and cautioned against any actions of sabotage that could disrupt their responsibilities. His remarks were made during an inspection visit to the NCoS National Headquarters in Abuja.

Addressing recent challenges faced by custodial centers nationwide, the minister underscored the need for dedication to duty. Noting the persistent issue of prison overcrowding, he stated that solutions are sought after to address this perennial concern.

The minister’s message was clear: “We are prepared to take action against anyone attempting to undermine our efforts.”

Tunji-Ojo highlighted his commitment to realizing the “Renewed Hope Agenda” championed by President Bola Tinubu. He reaffirmed his dedication to transforming the correctional service into an institution focused on rehabilitation rather than condemnation.

Additionally, during his visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the minister voiced concerns about incomplete data regarding expatriates within the country. He pledged to review agreements between the NIS and service providers, prioritizing the alignment of these agreements with the Service’s mandates.

He emphasized, “Any agreement that hinders national progress must be reconsidered.”

The minister also acknowledged the need to streamline the process of obtaining international passports, expressing concern over extended waiting periods faced by Nigerians. He expressed his intention to expedite the process to enhance citizens’ experiences.
