Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed his concern regarding the increasing prevalence of fabricated media reports, falsely attributed to interviews and press statements he never authorized.

Obi deplored the current state of Nigerian politics, where manipulation of the media has become a widespread practice.

However, he remains committed to addressing pressing national issues through reputable news outlets and established media platforms.

In a statement released on his verified Twitter account, the former governor of Anambra State emphasized that he would not be swayed by frivolous distractions or online trolls. He reiterated that his primary focus, along with the Obidient Movement, remains dedicated to the mission of creating a new Nigeria.

Obi conveyed his disappointment, stating, “I have noticed with great dismay a troubling trend of fake media reports and news items falsely attributed to interviews and press statements that I never participated in.”

He further highlighted two recent instances of false claims, including a supposed announcement of his intention to run for office in 2027 during an alleged interview on Arise TV, which never actually occurred. Additionally, there was a misleading report regarding his reaction to potential appointees to the Federal Government. He categorically refuted both reports as entirely fabricated.

Regrettably, he lamented the current state of politics, where the manipulation of media has become a prevalent trade.

Moving forward, Obi emphasized, “While I will continue to address significant national issues through credible news outlets, I will not waste my time on baseless distractions. My unwavering focus, together with the Obidient Movement, remains resolute in our original mission of creating a new Nigeria, an achievable vision we strongly believe in.”

He further emphasized that their priority has always been centered around the betterment of the nation, rather than personal gain or political positions. Their aim is to guide the nation in the right direction, deepen democracy, and empower the marginalized and vulnerable in society. This issue-driven approach was evident during their election campaigns.
